Business in El Medano
El Médano is world famous as a Mecca for those who love windsurfing but this seaside town in Tenerife South has many more attractions to offer making it a buoyant Tenerife business location!
El Médano is just a short drive away from the Reina Sofía Tenerife South Airport, making it easy to get to and get away from for holiday-makers visiting the island. Being on the coast of the extreme south of Tenerife, El Médano is also within easy reach of the very popular resorts of Los Cristianos and Playa de las Américas. There are regular buses that connect these seaside locations or you can take a taxi.

El Médano has plenty of cafés and restaurants as well as a good range of shops, and you will rarely find an empty bar along the beach promenade. In fact, if you are thinking of setting up or buying a Tenerife business then you might want to consider El Médano as the place to do so.

What happens in El Medano?
El Médano has some magnificent sandy beaches with La Tejita being thought of as one of the best on the island. This beach lies at the foot of the unmistakable Red Mountain (“Montaña Roja”), and this volcanic cone can be seen from many miles along the coast and from inland.

Swimmers and sunbathers enjoy El Médano’s beaches, although sometimes it can be windy there, and this is of course what makes it ideal for surfing. El Médano’s popularity with surfers of all types has made the town a chosen location for surfing contests, including regular kite-surfing championships. This year the resort plays host to the PWA (Professional Windsurfers Association) tour.

El Médano has a regular busy market that is held in the main square on Saturday mornings, and the town has a truly cosmopolitan flavour to it, whilst still maintaining an authentic Canary Islands feel at the same time. Besides the many Spanish people who live there, it is very popular with many other nationalities as well.

El Médano has plenty to interest visitors to the town. Just outside it is the Cueva del Hermano Pedro (“Cave of Brother Peter”), which site has become a center for religious devotion because it is where this Spanish Saint lived at one time. Brother Peter is also well known for having gone to Guatemala as a missionary and for founding the Order of Bethlehem.

Nature lovers and all those who take an interest in the countryside of Tenerife will find some unusual and rare plant species growing in the dunes at the base of El Médano’s Red Mountain. The unique habitat there provides a place where some plants found nowhere else on the island can thrive.
